Maisie Summers-Newton

Maisie Summers-Newton, from Wollaston,  is a British Paralympic swimmer, competing in S6 disability events.  In 2021, she was named as part of the Great Britain team to compete at the postponed 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.  At the Paralympics, she won gold in the 100m breaststroke (setting a European record of 1:32:34 along the way) and the 200m individual medley (setting a new world record of 2:56.68).

Later in the Games, Maisie finished 4th in both the S6 400m freestyle and the 4x100m medley.

Maisie was a member of Wellingborough Swimming Club and had additional training at the Scott Bader Pool. She eventually moved to train at Northampton Swimming Club.

After Maisie had left for Tokyo, the village mobilised.  Posters appeared in windows, red, white and blue bunting was hung, shop windows were decorated and the post box outside the Co-Op acquired a new topper.
The Museum, of course, joined in.
